Frequently Asked Questions

We Are Ready to Help

At Rising Light Counseling we understand that therapy can be a bit confusing and even scary. Not sure what to expect? Our goal is to ensure that we offer you a caring place for you to share your concerns and find hope in your life. Below are some typical questions you may have, but please don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any additional concerns.

Have Questions?

What is therapy and how can it help me?

Psychotherapy can be defined as a process of engagement between two people, the therapist and the client. It is process of self-discovery where people gain insight, knowledge and skills to be able to overcome challenges in their lives. Whether you are struggling to meet the demands of daily life or are not sure how to cope with a particular situation or a relationship, therapy can be a valuable resource for improving your life.

What types of clients do you typically see?
We welcome male and female clients as young as 3 years old to adults. We specialize in helping clients who are struggling with issues relating to anxiety, depression, ADHD, ASD, trauma, as well as difficulties in relationships.
Will my sessions be private and confidential?
Confidentiality is one of the most important components of a therapeutic relationship. Sessions are private and confidential except under the following conditions: If the therapist suspects abuse or neglect of children and adults or if the therapist believes that the client is in serious danger of harming him/herself or another person. By law, Marriage and Family Therapists are mandated reporters in any of these situations.
Do you offer in-person appointments?

We are no longer seeing clients in an office setting. We now offer flexible and safe Telehealth appointments to better serve our clients. Please visit our page Why Use Telehealth to learn more.

Do you prescribe medications?
As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, it is outside my scope of practice to prescribe medications. However, sometimes a medical evaluation can be very useful since mental health is often related to physical health. We are happy to provide referrals when needed.
Do you accept insurance? What forms of Payments to do accept?
We currently accept Blue Cross / Blue Shield, United and Cigna insurance plans. We accept cash, check, HSA and all major credit cards using the highest security standards. For all cash/credit paying clients, we provide a Superbill (i.e., an itemized healthcare receipt) that can assist with reimbursement from your insurance carrier.
Do you offer evening or weekend appointments?

Under very special circumstances, we can offer weekend and evening appointments. Please call us for more information.
